Nicolas Ortiz lives in Barrio Porvenir with his family.  He learned to make pottery from his younger brother Macario Ortiz.  He is famous for his innovative and realistic animal effigies, especially his rabbits.  Nicolas is also a member of the local band Los Hermanos Ortiz, singing, playing violin, piano, banjo, sax, guitar and drums.   He is a featured artist in the book The Many Faces of Mata Ortiz.
